Meet Dennis Flanagan
Dr. Dennis Flanagan is a diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry. Previously, he was a managing partner of a two-location private general dental group practice with 37 employees serving 15,000 patients, and he spent over eight years as Chief of Dentistry at Windham Community Memorial Hospital. He also serves as an expert witness.
In addition to his full-time practice in Mystic, Connecticut, Dr. Flanagan serves as an attending dentist for the U.S. Olympic Committee. He has published over 140 articles in dentistry and holds eight U.S. patents on medical and dental devices. He’s presented at national and international dental conferences throughout his career.
Dr. Flanagan is an Honored Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), Diplomate/Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration, and American Board of Forensic Dentistry. He received the AAID Lew Research Award and is on the editorial boards of several dental journals. Dr. Flanagan previously worked as an editorial consultant to the Academy of Osseointegration and editor for Oakstone Medical Publishing. He has served as an examining board member for the American Board of General Dentistry and American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry and as an examiner for the AAID.
Currently, Dr. Flanagan is a senior associate editor for the Journal of Oral Implantology and editor of the quarterly AAID News.
Dr. Flanagan graduated from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry (DDS) and completed specialized training in oral implantology at Harvard University Dental School (certificate) and Goethe Medical University, Frankfurt, Germany (MSc). He is a tenured associate professor of dental medicine at the Lugano University of Switzerland, Malta, and an adjunct professor and clinical site director, Jacksonville University. Dr. Flanagan has surgically placed and restored over 15,000 dental implants.
When Dr. Flanagan isn’t busy working at the practice, he enjoys cooking, fishing with his grandson, exploring science topics, and spending time with his family. He is married and the proud father and grandfather of two daughters, two sons, and ten grandchildren (soon to be 11).
